This year marks one of our most successful, sporting wise, and here is why:
Pupils have the opportunity to practise at both lunchtimes and after school. Many pupils go on to represent Southport Netball club.
- Year 9, 10 and 11 were North Sefton Champions.
- Year 10 were Liverpool Schools Champions and came runners up in Merseyside.
- Year 11 were MERSEYSIDE schools champions and have been undefeated this year
- Year 7 and 8 came runners up in North Sefton.
- Several members of the Year 10 and 11 teams represented Southport Netball Club and became County winners.
All year groups have the opportunity to practise weekly and take part in the Sefton, Merseyside and National Competitions.
- Year 7, 8 and 9s and 10s were Sefton Champions.
- Year 8 team won the Merseyside round of the England Hockey National Competition and were invited to compete in the North West round.
- Year 10 and 11 3rd in Sefton and Merseyside
- Year 11 team won the Merseyside round of the England Hockey National Competition and were invited to compete in the North West round, reaching the semi-final.
Many pupils go on to represent either Formby Hockey club or Southport and Ainsdale hockey club. Several pupils go to represent their region.
The pupils practise weekly and competed in the North Sefton competition.
- Years 7's were winners.
- Years 8/ 9's were runners up.
- Years 10/11's were runners up.
- Several members of the school team have joined Ormskirk Basketball club.
Pupils have the opportunity to practise badminton at breaks, lunchtimes and after school.
Both the Junior and Senior teams won the North Sefton Championships and went on to compete in the Merseyside Championships (National competition) coming a creditable 3rd place.
Pupils are given the opportunity to practise weekly and took part in the North Sefton championships.
- Years 7s were winners.
- Year 8 and 9s were winners. Many pupils play for either Everton, Birkdale United and Hesketh Colts
Premier League Schools competition
Greenbank u13 Football team comprising of Year 7 and 8 pupils took part in Everton’s Premier League Schools competition. The winners were lucky enough to represent Everton at the Premier League Schools competition at White Hart Lane in London. They beat Stoke, Sunderland , Chelsea, Swansea, Leicester to reach the final. They were beaten in the final 2-1 by Arsenal. A fantastic achievement - Premier League runners up.
Pupils have the opportunity to take part indoor athletics during the autumn term. They competed in the Sefton and Merseyside Championships. This is a national Competition.

Pupils have the opportunity to take part in the North Sefton Championships and the Sefton Championship. We also entered the National schools competition.
Year 7s were North Sefton and Sefton champions. Year 8s were North Sefton and Sefton champions. Year 9s were North Sefton and Sefton runners up. Year 10s were North Sefton and Sefton champions
English Schools Athletics KS3 round 1 Winners.
Pupils have the opportunity to take part in the Sefton Cross Country Championships.
Year 7s were Sefton champions. Year 8s were 3rd. Year 9s were 3rd. Year 10/11s were runners up. Overall Greenbank were Sefton Champions. Over 70 pupils represented Greenbank in the Sefton Championships.
Pupils have the opportunity to take part in the North Sefton Championships and to play in competitive matches. Practices are very well attended.
Year 7s were North Sefton champions. Year 8s were North Sefton champions. Year 9s were North Sefton runners up. Year 10s were North Sefton champions
50 Year 7 pupils took part in their Level 2 / 3 cycling proficiency award during curriculum time. The school uses bikes in lessons to promote healthy lifestyles.
100 pupils from all years attend the extra-curricular Dance clubs. Over 40 pupils take part in the Wally Cain Dance Festival and local Primary Schools attend our after school Dance club led by staff and pupils.
Several pupils also had the opportunity to take part in The Dance Leaders course which enables them to assist with the lower school dance club and primary dance. Pupils also take part in the dance element of the school drama productions.
Leadership and Officiating
Physical Education Leadership at Greenbank is an integral part of our sporting provision. We encourage leadership and officiating both within lessons and in an extra-curricular context. Pupils are recognised and rewarded for the following roles;
- Class PE Captains
- Team Captains
- House PE Captains
- School Games Captains
In addition to this the pupils in Year 9 complete an in house Sports Leadership award and then take on the responsibility of running clubs at break times for the pupils. Over 45 Year 9s completed this award and helped to organise local Primary competitions and the Merseyside Indoor athletics competition. Regular participation in Leadership contributes to the Greenbank Leadership Academy award scheme. 150 pupils have completed this award over the past 3 years.
Key Stage 4 pupils can extend their Leadership experience by completing Sports specific course such as netball leaders and the Level 1 Sports Leaders Course. Year 10 and 11 Sports leaders assist with the Year 7 G and T skills club.

The PE Department are also keen to offer a range of Extra-curricular trips to enhance the school experience for the pupils at Greenbank.
These trips include:
- bi-annual Watersports trips to Southern Spain.
- an annual Outdoor and Adventurous to PGL trip to Shropshire
- annual trips to see top class sport in a venue such as the, hockey at Wembley and netball at the Echo Arena
- Dance trips to see a professional performance
Back to school - adult community PE:
For three years the PE department has successfully run an adults “Back to PE” club. This has proven very popular and over 30 people have attended regularly. The adults are a mix or past pupils, parents and members of the public. They have had the opportunity to play a range of PE activities to promote healthy active lifestyles.

Greenbank High School’s “Back to school PE” provides women with the opportunity to get back into sport. Sessions will be led by qualified Greenbank PE teachers and will be fun and an opportunity to reminisce about your sporting school days….The emphasis of these sessions is on learning new skills and having fun playing a variety of different games with new and old friends. Whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities you forgot you had or about getting active again, these sessions cater for all abilities. Get fit, have fun and make friends through Back to School PE.
Greenbank has an annual Sports Awards Evening which celebrates the commitment and achievements of our pupils.
Pupils are given certificates, badges, trophies and special awards to recognise their PE journey at Greenbank High School. Over 200 pupils and their parents are invited along with a special guest to present prizes and give a motivational speech. This year Paralympian Rik Wadden presented the prizes to our pupils.

Gifted and Talented PE club
30 Key Stage 3 Gifted and talented Pupils take part in a lunchtime club organised by the G and T KS4 pupils. They take part in a variety of activities focussing on fitness, teamwork, skill development and competition. They also took part in a Gifted and Talented workshop focussing on the attributes of a top athlete, run by Paralympian cyclist Rik Waddon.
